Hardware Requirements
Corelyzer takes advantage of hardware accellerated graphics. While a primarily 2D visualization program, Corelyzer uses [OpenGL to accellerate the rendering and take advantage of modern day graphics boards. This does mean that the performance of the application is not only dependent on the speed of your CPU but also the power of your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Fortunately, any modern day graphics card that can run video games from a few years back can easily run Corelyzer. Currently the leaders in graphics card technologies are [NVIDIA] and [ATI].
Corelyzer can also end up using lots of hard drive space and main memory. It is recommended to have at least 2GB of RAM on your machine if you intend on looking at a hundred meters of high resolution core images, or more.
One more thing to note is that Corelyzer does not currently have any mechanisims to support heterogeneous display settings. This means that if you have a monitor that only goes up to 1280x1024 and another at 1600x1200, you will have to choose one or the other when setting up your Corelyzer display settings when running the application. This is discussed further in Starting up Corelyzer.

Software Requirements
Java Runtime Environment
Corelyzer, starting from version 0.6 makes use of the Java Runtime Environment. The current version of Corelyzer requires Java version 1.5.0. Please make sure to install Java 1.5.
On Windows, you should only have to modify your system's PATH settings. On the Mac it should be noted that you will have to modify the version in use by going into Applications->Utilities->Java->J2SE 5.0->Java Preferences. We have had trouble getting this to work sometimes and have ended modifying a link using Terminal.app. To determine if this worked on Windows or Mac, open either a Command Prompt or Terminal window (for Windows and Mac respectively) and type the following:
java -version
If you see a version number other than 1.5.0_xxx, then Corelyzer will not work.
