ChronosJanus Plugin
From CwWiki
Plugin Purpose
The purpose of this plugin is to access the IODP JANUS database to retrieve the high-resolution (254 DPI) core section images.
The goals of this plugin was to use the CHRONOS webservices capabilities to access JANUS and retrieve the URLs to the images. Another purpose of this plugin is to tell Corelyzer to rotate the images 90 degrees counter-clockwise, because all the IODP images are vertically oriented, where Corelyzer displays data horizontally. The third feature of this plugin is a more accurate positioning of the core sections using webservices to access the curated length of each core section image and append each subsequent image.
Making sure you have the plugin
If you start the Corelyzer application, click on the Plugins menu item. If you do not see ChronosJanusPlugin or an item like that, then the plugin has not been installed. Please download the plugin (deprecated link; please use the bundled plugin in the latest Corelyzer release) and place it in the plugins directory of your Corelyzer application.
The plugin automatically loads up when Corelyzer starts.
Using the Plugin
The plugin user interface has been designed in a stream-lined manner. To bring up the plugin select the menu item Plugins->ChronosJanusPlugin. Here are the intended steps for use of the plugin:
- Enter an IODP site to search for (e.g. site number 1215)
- Click on the Search button
- A listing of core section images should become available
- Select the images desired to load
- Click on the Load Sections button
- User must wait as image files are retrieved over the web, processed and displayed
- A progress bar indicating the status will update during the process
- Once the process is over the progress bar will return to being empty
After the process is over, there should be images loaded. The plugin assumes that the first image should be placed at a depth of 0.0 meters-below-sea-floor (MBSF). In the future, when the webservice can retrieve the actual MBSF then the images will be placed at the proper depth.
If a track is not already created, the plugin will create a track. Otherwise it will place the new images along the currently selected track.
